Harold was the brother I never had! He came to my families house every summer and Christmas through a program called the Fresh Air Fund. My grandparents considered another grandchild. The night before he came up every summer I would stay awake all night in anticipation of all the fun I knew we would have over the summer. We went on trips to Cape Cod and York Beach Maine every summer.
One of the funniest moments ever happened on the way home from Maine one summer, when he woke up suddenly and started the "seat belt's got me. "
Everyone in this small town knew who Harold was. Everyone wanted to be his friend. He was larger than life. We would have a welcome back party and going away parties every summer he was here.
There are so many memories going through my mind right now. The last time I saw Harold was five years ago. He was in Massachusetts for a tour with Zoo York. We didn't get to spend much time together, but just enough to reminisce about Boy Scout Camp, friends we knew from the past, scaring the nuts out of each other in the middle of the night, camping out in the back yard.
Harold always had my back if anybody started with me. He was the brother I never had! We lived like brothers and we fought like brothers. Even though I only saw him twice in the last 10 years, he will always be a part of my life and my family.
If someone could give me some contact information for his family, it would be appreciated. Please respond to llaves33@hotmail.com.
Rest in peace, buddy! I can't believe you're gone.
